Sunshine State Awards Ceremony
Join us for the Sunshine State Awards ceremony on Aug. 27, 2022!
We will be gathering in person for the first time in two years! Meet us at NSU Art Museum in downtown Fort Lauderdale for an evening of food, drink, networking and celebrating the best of Florida’s journalism.
6:30 p.m. Cocktail Hour
- Open bar and passed appetizers at the NSU Art Museum’s spacious lobby, as well as a photo booth and raffle prizes.
- Guests are also welcome to explore the exhibits during this time, which includes works by Kehinde Wiley at the Lux et Veritas” exhibit.
8 p.m. Ceremony
- We’ll make our way to the museum auditorium for a presentation of awards to first-place winners in high school, college and professional categories.
- The ceremony will be hosted by NBC 6 anchor, Sheli Muñiz.
- Words from SPJ Florida President Jason Parsley and NAHJ South Florida President Brandon López.
Tickets
Early registration has closed. Tickets can still be purchased at the event.

Travel Advisory
Broward Boulevard will be fully closed at the railroad crossing, just west of Andrews Avenue, starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, August 27, through 6 a.m., Wednesday, August 31.
Westbound on Broward Boulevard
Traffic headed westbound on Broward Boulevard will be directed to:
- Turn right (north) on Andrews Avenue
- Turn left (west) at NW 4th Street
- Turn left (south) at NW 7th Ave/Ave of Arts to Broward Boulevard
Eastbound on Broward Boulevard
Traffic headed eastbound on Broward Boulevard will be directed to:
- Turn right (south) on SW 7th Avenue/Avenue of Arts
- Turn left (east) at SW 6th Street
- Turn left (north) at Andrews Ave to Broward Boulevard
Parking
There is a public parking garage across the street from the NSU Museum of Art; the garage is to the west of the museum on SE First Ave. Guests can easily pay for parking using the garage machines or with the Pay By Phone app, then walk across the street to join in the festivities.
Lodging
Guests attending from outside of the Fort Lauderdale area are welcome to block a room at the Tru by Hilton Fort Lauderdale Downtown for the night of Aug. 27. The hotel is located less than 1 mile from the venue and guests are encouraged to take an Uber or Lyft for the festivities. The discounted rate of $129 will only be available for guests who book by July 31.
