All Star Pitch Freelance Event Hits a Home Run

It was like speed dating, but everyone had burgers and resumes in hand instead of little black books.

On April 28, SPJ Florida hosted All Star Pitch — a hiring opportunity for local freelancers. The inaugural event took place at BurgerFi in Fort Lauderdale and let writers pitch editors from about 10 local, regional and national publications.

Editors from publications including Fort Lauderdale Magazine, Gulfstream Media Group, Boca Raton Magazine, Debt.com, South Florida Gay News, Rise Miami News, Lifestyle Media Group and UPI.com were in attendance.

Thanks to the Miami Marlins, we were able to raffle off a pair of tickets to a game of the winner’s choice plus batting practice. Clayton Gutzmore ended up being the lucky winner.
