Join the members of the South Florida Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists on August 3rd as we take a tour of Anne Mergen: Florida Cartoons at the Historical Museum of Southern Florida. The exhibit will display over two dozen of Mergen’s original cartoon renderings from the Great Depression through the Cold War. Mergen is renowned for being one of the first women in the United States to break into the male-dominated field of cartoon artistry. Her work, published in the Miami News, Atlanta Journal and the Dayton News, drew critical acclaim as she focused on Miami and the State of Florida. The day will also include a tour of the museum’s Interama exhibit. Interama was an Epcot-type project that was planned, but never built, for the site where FIU’s north campus (including the J-School) is today. The exhibit title is “Interama: Miami and the Pan-American Dream.” The tour will be followed by a dinner at Casablanca Seafood Bar and Grill in Miami.
