APC’s 2008 Annual Gala/ Green Eyeshade Awards
The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) and Atlanta Press Club (APC) will honor the best in journalism from 11 states in one night at APC’s 2008 Annual Gala/ Green Eyeshade Awards.
Bob Edwards, the host of “The Bob Edwards Show” on XM Satellite Radio and “Bob Edwards Weekend” on Public Radio International, will be the featured guest at this year’s event. The Gala will be held Saturday, July 19, from 6:30 to 10 p.m., at The Commerce Club in downtown Atlanta.
SPJ will honor the recipients of the 58th annual Green Eyeshade Awards This regional journalism competition recognizes outstanding journalism in 11 southeastern states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia. The Green Eyeshade Awards were started by the Atlanta Professional Chapter of SPJ and are now administered by regional directors for the Society. APC will announce the winners of their Journalist of the Year awards, which recognize excellence in reporting among one’s peers and professional colleagues in the Atlanta area.
Before joining XM in 2004, Bob Edwards hosted National Public Radio’s (NPR) “Morning Edition” for 24 years, attracting more than 13 million listeners weekly. He joined NPR in 1974 and was co-host of NPR’s evening news magazine, “All Things Considered,” until 1979 when he helped launch “Morning Edition.” Bob Edwards has won the duPont-Columbia Award for radio journalism, a George Foster Peabody Award for excellence in broadcasting, and the Edward R. Murrow Award for outstanding contributions to public radio. In November of 2004, Edwards was inducted into the national Radio Hall of Fame.

Admission for the Annual Gala is $55 for APC and SPJ members (members can bring one guest at this rate), and $65 for non-members. Tables of 10 are available for $550 for members or $650 for non-members. Proceeds benefit APC and the Atlanta Press Club Endowment including the APC Scholarship Fund.
