Breaking the Code of Ethics

April is Ethics Month, and some South Florida colleges have taken to showing SPJ’s Code of Ethics by breaking as many of them as they could with SPJ’s Spread Immoral News (SIN).

Florida International University put together an entire online fictional issue of The Examiner. Florida Atlantic University’s student newspaper, the University Press, put together an entire print issue of their glossy magazine under the title Unethical Press.

SPJ Florida, along with Region 3 and SDX, are sponsors of the program, contribute grant money to schools across the nation who wish to partake in SIN. The point: to show readers who think all journalists are “lying-terrorist-pedophile-losers” a world in which ethics didn’t exist.
