Chapter Officer, Director Elections Set for November 19

Dear SPJ South Florida Member:

This serves as a “save the date” notice for our chapter’s annual election meeting, scheduled for the evening of Thursday, November 19 in Broward (time and location TBD). Please mark your calendar now and plan to attend. More details will follow soon.

Now is the time for you to have your say in the governance of your SPJ chapter. Chapter President Julie Kay has appointed a nominating committee consisting of Past President Darcie Lunsford (chair), Bill Hirschman, Jaime Danielson and Sergy Odiduro. If you would like to nominate yourself or others for any position, please contact Darcie at dlunsford@bizjournals.com or 954-949-7523.

As specified by our bylaws, “The officers of the chapter shall be president, executive vice president, vice president for membership, vice president for programming, secretary and treasurer. The officers shall be elected annually by those members in good standing and who are present at the election meeting in the manner prescribed by the bylaws. The election will be conducted by voice-vote for any and all races that are not contested by more than one candidate unless a member objects. If a member objects, or if there is a contested race, the election for that specific office will be held by secret ballot… Officers shall be elected by a simple majority vote.”

In addition to the above listed officer positions, the chapter will vote to fill up to five director positions, for a total of 11 available positions. (The immediate past president holds the twelfth seat.) All positions are for a term of one year, effective Jan. 1, 2010.
