Why is our chapter the best fit for you?
SPJ Florida does not charge chapter dues. By joining our local chapter, honored as SPJ’s Chapter of the Year three times since 2010, you can stay up-to-date on the latest events and programs in your area.
Our programs are dynamic and engaging
The programs we put on are relevant to the work lives and professional development of journalists and non-journalists alike and they are always a good time!
The chapter hosted a “Fake News Game Show” in April of this year, and in November 2016 held “Journalism & Islam: Food for Thought” at the Islamic Center of Boca Raton. Both touched on hot-button issues, inviting open discussions.

Be among the state’s best at annual SSA
Florida Pro members also enjoy a membership discount when entering in our Sunshine State Awards (SSA)! Members get one entry free with their first paid entry.
Award categories run the gamut from all manner of reporting beats to photography, editorial cartoons, radio newscasts and blogs.
Through a partnership with the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the chapter also include a Spanish-language division.
Network outside your neighborhood
You can still attend events across the state for free or cheap. You can apply for grants and scholarships (or share with those that qualify), which can get you to the national SPJ convention free of charge.
The annual Excellence in Journalism conference provides sessions and workshops that will touch every beat – from reporting in the Trump era to recording 360-videos with cutting-edge technology.
Support journalism at every level
Education for tomorrow’s journalists is paramount, and SPJ Florida wants to lend a hand. For that reason, this year the chapter is giving $3,500 in scholarships to incoming or full-time journalism students at Florida universities.
