Legendary Bob Reid will speak at UM on Thursday

Award-winning producer Bob Reid to speak to journalism students at the University of Miami School of Communication, open and free to the public

As a student journalist 50 years ago in 1966, Reid was elected Miami-Dade College’s first Black student government president. The previous year he was news editor of The Falcon Times student newspaper. While he was a student at MDC he worked (as the first black cub reporter) at the Miami Herald. Then as a student at the University of Miami, Reid worked as a WTVJ-TV reporter/producer covering riots, civil rights issues and politics.

Reid had an illustrious top-level career in journalism all over the country. He broke barriers in newsrooms; led news bureaus around the country; worked for Fox as Los Angeles Bureau Chief at the time it was launching as the Fox News Network; served as president of the National Association of Black Journalists from 1979-1980; launched the Africa Channel; and ran the Discovery Health Channel.

Reid will speak about writing for the digital age and Arewa24’s programs aimed at enabling civil society leaders to be more proactive in peace building, women and youth empowerment and promoting tolerance among various religious and ethnic groups.
