SPJ Florida Launches Statewide Journalism Newsletter

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Sept. 21, 2026 — Florida journalists have a new place to keep up with their own profession.

The Florida Byline, a new statewide newsletter dedicated to covering journalism and the people who produce it, has officially launched.

Created by SPJ Florida, The Florida Byline brings together media news, newsroom developments, career moves, awards, contests, grants, professional opportunities and noteworthy journalism from across Florida.

The newsletter is still finding its voice and will continue to evolve as it explores what is most useful and interesting to Florida’s journalism community. Coverage will span print, digital, television, radio, nonprofit and independent journalism.

The Florida Byline will track journalism awards and contests, grants and fellowships, conferences, professional events and other developments affecting journalists across the state.

It will also feature a curated Reading List, highlighting notable journalism from different regions of Florida while recognizing the reporters behind the work.

Future editions may expand into original reporting and other features as the newsletter grows and finds its footing.

“The media industry has changed dramatically, and that change is happening particularly fast at the local level,” said Jason Parsley, immediate past president of SPJ Florida. “But the story isn’t only about what journalism is losing. New publications are launching. Journalists are experimenting. Communities are finding different ways to support local news. I’d like to see The Florida Byline document all of it.”

The Florida Byline is intended for journalists, editors, publishers, producers, photographers, journalism students, educators, communications professionals and anyone interested in the future of Florida media.

Readers are also encouraged to participate. Journalists and news organizations can submit newsroom news, job changes, awards, events, contests, grants and other tips for possible inclusion in future editions.
