Orlando journalist Jonathan Camuy was among those killed in the Orlando shooting early Sunday morning.
Camuy, 25, worked on “La Voz Kids” on Telemundo produced in Orlando. He was previously part of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists student chapter in Puerto Rico before relocating to Orlando to work for Telemundo. Camuy’s death was announced Monday afternoon by NAHJ and the City of Orlando.
Dori Zinn, SPJ Florida President, expressed her deepest condolences on Monday upon learning of Camuy’s death.
“This news over the last day has been absolutely devastating for everyone — not just those in SPJ Florida, but worldwide,” Zinn said. “But when you lose a fellow journalist in attacks this heinous, your heart hurts that much more. Our community is heartbroken.”
SPJ Florida has a long partnership with the South Florida chapter of NAHJ and is committed to continuing that through our work in bettering journalism, journalists, and media in general.
Please consider donating to the Equality Florida GoFundMe, where all donations will be going toward the victims and families of victims from the Orlando shooting.
